Canadian wireless penetration rests at 58%, second last in the OECD

It’s an oxymoron.  Canada is the producer of RIM’s Blackberry yet Canadian wireless service providers suppress it’s use.

It’s done – I downgraded my Rogers plan

Ok, now I believe.  I use the itokk callback and I am my own business case study.  I have reduced my wireless mobile phone bills from well over $300 per month to just about $100 and I use my mobile for all my calls now especially overseas long distance.  I can’t believe the wireless bills I used to pay every month.  I could buy a small car with the savings.

I called Rogers wireless and down-graded my plan to the Mega Unlimited incoming call plan.

I now pay $30/month for 150 daytime local minutes, 1000 evening & weekend calling and I get **unlimited incoming**.

I make all my calls using itokk. Now the way itokk works, is when I dial the number the number is sent via my data connection and a VoIP network calls me back, thus I get an incoming call which costs me nothing.  The itokk VoIP network calls the destination number and bridges the call.  I now pay an itokk rate which is a VoIP rate at very low costs.

So now my bill is $30 for the voice plan, $40 for a 2MB data plan and $12 for the value pack for a total of about $82 per month.

I buy about $20/month in itokk prepaid credits for what I consider heavy usage.

My total mobile wireless phone bills are now about $1o2 per month.  About 1/3 of what they used to be.

I’m happy.

Practice what you preach

If you like something about technology or some gadget, you should either use or own it.  I was intrigued with some interesting web telephony products and services recently showing up on the web.  Various plug-ins for your mobile phone to link to Skype or Googletalk and IM’s on the mobile phone.   So I started downloading and trying them all out!

I discovered new ways to make Internet calls using a mobile phone.  Of course I thought that was cool, but what about the practicality?  So we built itokk.

Let’s see. Will it work?
